GRAPHALLOY PROVIDES CART WHEEL SOLUTIONS IN EXTREME ENVIRONMENTS

GRAPHALLOY bushings and mounted units have provided solutions to cart wheel applications ranging from high temperature furnace carts to carts used in harsh chemical environments.

LUMBER CARTS

Process changes have created problems with the lubricant in the cart wheels used in making pressure treated lumber. The grease was washed away by the new chemicals used in the pressure vessel. Self lubricating GRAPHALLOY eliminated the need for grease and solved the problem providing reduced maintenance, longer bearing life and increased production.

FURNACE CARTS

Bronze Bushings were failing in a car bottom steel ingot heating furnace. With loads of up to 100,000 pounds and temperatures of more than 700^oF, the oil failed to keep the bushings lubricated. There was oil on the floor that created a hazardous situation for the workers. GRAPHALLOY bushings were fitted into the housings to accept the axles of the cart wheels. The bushings have operated for more than two years with no sign of wear.

ALUMINUM HEAT TREAT OVEN

GRAPHALLOY 163 style pillow blocks are being used on carts in an aluminum heat treat oven at temperatures of more than 900^oF. Roller bearings and metal bushings were tried, but the random failures continued, causing expensive, unscheduled downtime. The life of the cart wheels has been extended since being fitted with the GRAPHALLOY Pillow Blocks.
